The patented SecondSky® technology by Iyris blocks shortwave infrared (IR) peaks (700–2500 nm) in the light spectrum, which are a major cause of thermal stress for plants. This reduces peak heat temperatures while preserving the thermal effect (maintaining day/night temperature differences).
Pollination remains unaffected as the UV spectrum (<400 nm) is not altered. The Oasis® SecondSky® film is particularly beneficial for crops with spring-summer production cycles or those grown in regions with high sunlight intensity. The additive can be incorporated into any greenhouse film to suit the specific needs of each project and remains recyclable at the end of its life.
Results collected include:
• 35–75% of shortwave IR blocked, depending on the formulation used, resulting in a leaf/soil contact temperature reduction of 2–6°C (*) in summer.
• **80–89% of PAR light maintained (**Photosynthetically Active Radiation).
• Water, fertiliser, and energy savings of up to 25% (*).
• Yield increases of 10–20% (*).
• Potential savings in time and costs due to reduced or eliminated shading techniques during summer.
